I fired into the house, emptying my pistol’s magazine. I was mostly just interested in keeping their heads down and to keep them from firing at us. Then I ran for cover. But in the street, cover was basically the man in front of you.
The troopers were firing as I reloaded my gun. With a thought, I put it on pinpoint particle beam and started blasting the drones out of the sky. They came down one at a time, but not before killing or injuring plenty of troopers.
The front of the house exploded. Someone had used a grenade launcher to stop the inhabitants from shooting. And it worked, as no more shots came from the structure.
The drones dealt with, I went to work on the gang members. They stood little chance even though they outnumbered us. Our troopers had training and lots of ammunition for their assault rifles. Some men were going down, and medics scurried from body to body.
I shot two green-clad men when the gang members turned and ran.
The captain of the troopers glowered at me.
